The Protheans where an ancient race who over saw much of the galaxy and it's inner workings and such. They were around before modern civilization, and were thought to be extinct. However, newer discoveries of Protheans Cryo-Tubes indicate that some Protheans may still be alive, though not many. They believed themselves to be superior to other races that are now the dominant species and havev intellectual cultures. They witnessed the beggining of most modern societies and have far greater understanding of ancient tech than modern scientist's do.
