Geth

Geth are synthetic life forms that where created by Quarians to do manual labor and to be the back bone for the working class. Originally they where created as unintelligent, so that they were V.I.'s instead of A.I.'s. However, there was a program that allowed them to become smarter around other Geth, and share information and allowed for higher CUP processing. Eventually this led to a Geth asking his Quarian master, "What am I?" Therefore proving that Geth had gained consciousness. The Quarians where afraid of this, and started eradicating all Geth they could. This lead to a war between the species which, in part, has still remained with some sects of the Geth species. These radical Geth have forced others into there way of thinking and forced the Quarians off the planet. The radical Geth and Quarians are still fighting even today. Though the radicals are backed by the Confederacy there is no real telling between the radical Geth and Geth who want peace.
